Check Out Our Work in the New York Times
Check out this article in the New York Times about one of our clients, Hygge Supply, and one of their recently constructed SIP homes. AS Engineering Services provided structural engineering design and drafting services for all of the Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) homes offered by Hygge Supply. We helped to develop all construction details, engineering and construction methodology with our unique expertise with SIPs. For this project, we developed the breezeway to connect the two prefabricated structures together as part of the overall plan. We used steel beams to create the large overhang at the patio that was on the other side of the breezeway.
Architectural Design, Structural Design, SIP House
AS Engineering Services provided architectural and structural designs services for a Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) residence. The building was constructed with SIP exterior wall, floors and roof. The interior walls were of light steel construction and functioned as shear walls. Structural steel beams were utilized to support the floor framing and several of the long span roof panels. This design allowed for floor to ceiling windows and a clean interior look.

Residential Renovations-Nassau County, Long Island, NY
AS Engineering Services provided structural engineering design services for the renovation of a private residence on the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, NY. The project consisted of the demolition of the existing structure down to the concrete foundation walls and construction of a new two-story residence. The new residence utilized large open spans with offset upper level walls and provided challenges in design due to long cantilevers over the exterior structural walls.
The project presented several unique challenges for the AS Engineering Services firm of Port Jefferson, NY, including designing large open spans as well as long cantilevers with lots of windows. These prerequisites made the use of shear walls an engineering challenge. The spans and cantilevers were achieved with steel beams that were kept flush within the floor framing to provide a clean look as required by the architect and a combination of steel moment frames and wood framed shear walls were designed to resist the lateral loads upon the building.
The AS Engineering Services team provided Structural Engineering services to design the structure of the new home with all steel beams set flush within the floor system. This allowed for the large open spans without any supporting columns to break up the open floor plan.

Existing Residence
Residential Structural Engineering, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY
AS Engineering Services firm of Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY provided structural engineering design services for the renovation of a private residence on the North Shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, NY. The project removing to interior walls to create a large open floor plan between the kitchen and great room.
One of the two walls to be removed supported both the second floor as well as the roof load so the new beams and supporting structure had to carry these loads down to ground. AS Engineering Services accomplished this by supporting the new structural beam with a second laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beam.
The structural engineering services provided allowed the finished project to have large open spans without any supporting columns to break up the open floor plan for the Long Island homeowners.
Structural Engineering Nassau County, Long Island, New York
AS Engineering Services provided structural engineering services for this waterfront community in Nassau County, Long Island, NY. The project consists of 6 total buildings: 3 townhomes and 3 condominiums.
The buildings were supported on helical piles with grade beams and pile caps. The first level support structure consisted of structural steel supporting wood trusses and upper two floor all of wood-framed construction.
Structural Engineering, Private Residence, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY
AS Engineering Services provided structural engineering services for a private residence in East Hampton, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Approximately 20,000 square feet building with all steel frame. Walls are specified to be all glass, so therefore steel moment frames were required in all directions. Exterior decks were required over the basement without the use of interior columns. Other floor elevation changes created some unique challenging design and detailing situations. Floor system was created with steel bar joists with metal deck and concrete slab.
